my boyfriend is extremely cuddly and talkative whenever i'm with him, but once we both go to our consecutive houses (and get on aim to talk to each other), he becomes quiet and nontalkative. we've kind of run out of things to talk about (almost). does anyone have advice?

He could be distracted by other net things he could be doing. Also, unless you just want to type about what happened that day, just call him? Being that close and that you happen to be both logged on doesnt mean you have to have a constant conversation. You are actually expecting a man to have a long pointless chat?
