Art is my life at the minute.
All I want is to be an artist. But my parents don't want me to be.
They say it's not a stable career.
They don't realise that that's the point.

  • Whats stopping you from using the title 'artist' right now? Are you in high school? Take a business slant to school, or education based (to be a teacher) AND practice art on the side. What kind of art do you want to make, and what skills do you already have? Can you draw? Illustrate? Painting? Ceramics? Focus on that 'career' they want you to have (and probably will help pay for it) AND pratice your art skills. Do still-lives, find a artist co-op and get into some nude drawing classes and stuff like that. Start learning your history too. Find influences. Learn about art movements. Appreciate how little we do to make art, compaired to what they did in the past. They called them masters for a reason.

    Essentially, do both.
