Back in the 60's I saw horror in school
If you weren't a strong kid you got hit up for lunch money. The threat being that if you didn't give it to them they would beat the ** out of you. I never gave them anything and I paid a price for it.
One the bus things were chaos. The driver let the girls in first and the boys had to take the seats left over. I chose to stand rather than fight some some ** seat on the bus. The trip lasted a half hour and I had been sitting down all day anyway.
This didn't stop three lunatics from picking on me. There was a short stocky girl in front of me and they thought it would be hilarious to shove me into her.
I grabbed the sides of the seat and shoved back. I was determined to protect the girl in front of me. The two morons who were pushing me at first were unsuccessful but they were jined by this dangerous punk who had been a varsity basketball player before he joined a gang. He was larger than I was and stronger.
Still I tried to protect the girl. He was winning the shoving match when the girl turned around and looked at him. He knew she would tell if he succeeded in shoving me into her.
She was very grateful to me and sat beside me on the bus. Not pretty, not ugly just a non head turner type of girl. I hope the best for her.

...but it was done with fists...not with weapons as it is now-a-days. As bad as it was, it's far, far worse now.
