"Ponette" (French, with English subtitles), because of the subject matter, and "Cinema Paradiso" (Italian, with English subtitles), because of the beauty. And also, "Il Postino" (Italian, with English subtitles), because the star actually died in real life the day after filming ended. The Americans know ** about making movies, sad or otherwise: you have to go to Europe to find ANYTHING that has true human emotion in its making or depicted on the screen.
