I'm nearly 70

My life has been so blase that my whole story could be told in about one hour. I had asthma and I was unable to serve my country in the military. My one and only marriage was a failure which produced no children.

I've been laid off four times before I got too old to work and I live on inherited money and social security. If it had not been for the support of my family I would have wheezed my life out in a cardboard box in an alley somewhere.

I have various health issues and I'm overweight. I'll probably kick off during the next ten or fifteen years.

Only in America could a person with no much going for them could have survived this long in this situation.

I drink too much beer etc.

  • If you want to do something with your life, do it. 10-15 years from now..yes, when you get to a certain age there is the very realization that your time on earth is limited. But you're not dead yet. 70 is the new 60. Find the optimist within, the pessimist will continue to keep you down. Stop concentrating on what you didn't do and on what you did. If your health isn't great, get on a program to lose some weight. Even walking 20 minutes a day can change your life. Sounds like you have the money and support of family, which a lot of people today don't have at your age - even those with children. As for the job, who cares if you were laid off. That's in the past. And being laid off has very little to do with job performance. If it's about accomplishing something, what about opening up your own business? or franchise? Or fill your time with things you enjoy. Put the beer can down and learn to cook, take classes, travel, write a book, volunteer, train for a race - walk a 5K. Life is what you make it and you're not dead yet.
