i personally see love as a connection for another person that you would do anything for. i you are willing to hurt or let them get hurt, i dont believe it was there to begin with. but honestly.
grow up. love is not a fairy tale land, and will not be amazing all of the time. there will be great moments, and horrible. even if the horrible leads to worse, you need to accept it and move on. as corny as it sounds, there are plenty of fish in the sea.

love is amazing and you will never be happier than when u are in love...but be warned it is also life shattering when it falls apart (if it does) and can take months or years to get over if u ever do. because you bring down all your barriers for this person it makes u more vunrable. my advice - keep some walls up against letting him/her in entirely
