Adding Canada will backfire on the balance of political power. I agree that they SHOULD have been INVITED POLITELY while pointing out the mutual benefits.
HOWEVER: they would elect their "Governor" most likely just change the name of the leadership title allowing their P.M. to retain power and yet comply to statehood guidelines.
AND: As a state it would be their right to retain free Healthcare & Education. American colleges would see a huge decline, not at first but very soon as the following high school graduates would apply for free college. American collages would eventually fall into being relegated as community colleges IF they survive at all.
AND: Their Health Care would basically injure the health insurance racket of the United States. As it is there are many Americans that are alive today after being treated for cancer and other diseases in Canada and even Mexico without going broke.
Maybe America could become a Canadian state. That would give them a king and netflix could make a mini series.
