I get sad when my dog doesn't listen to me

My dog usually listens to me and does what I say. However, when my dad is around he gets all happy and doesn't even acknowledge my existence let alone my commands. It upsets me.

Ps- I'm married and have 3 kids whom I love very much so no I am not obsessed with my dog... It's just upsetting and embarrassing when he doesn't listen to me.

  • Sometimes I feel like that too...I love my doggie he's a great friend...but I wish he didn't went rushing up to my dad when he's at the end of bed warming my feet LOL!

  • You need to speak bark.

  • Dogs easily pick up the "chain of command". Most will respond to the so-called "Alpha male/female" of the house. There are exceptions with the one-man dogs. They don't give a **** who the alpha male/female is; they only listen to number 1 - (i.e. the person who feeds them regularly, spends time with them, and attends to all their other needs). These are the very loyal types. Blackfriar's Bobby (a terrier who lived in Edinburgh, Scotland) would wait at his master's grave everyday, waiting for him to come home. The people of Edinburgh used to feed him, and take care of him while he was waiting. For some reason, your dog picks up that your Dad is in authority over you, so he is just doing what dogs do...no need to worry - he still loves you.
