Selfish, Bad Parent, or Tough Love?
I'm buying a house big enough for the whole family to live with me.
My son says it's too far away from his social life, so he won't live there.
My other son says it's too far away and too old, so he won't live there.
My daughter says it's too far away from everything, but she wants to be in charge of decorating and will live there only until she can live somewhere else.
They're all in their twenties in various stages of completed/completing college, and all are unemployed, so they all have to live with one of us parents.
My secret? I love them all unconditionally, even when they're hard to love, which is most of the time, but I really don't want ANY of them to live with me.
I'd rather invite courteous strangers who really need and would appreciate a home to fill my house.
I'm posting this to get it off my chest and to alleviate my guilty feelings. I feel a lot better now.
Wish I knew how to reach you. I'd make an appreciative and respectful roommate-- maybe a little too quiet at times, but you'd never have to worry about stuff getting stolen or anything like that.
