When I was twelve my parents used to like a little girl in the neighborhood. The child came over often and heres why.
Her parents didn't love her for some insane reason. They wanted a boy and were ** off that she was a girl.

The girl is grown now and so am I and we frequently discuss the legalities of what happened. Nothing will happen now and we are both old, retired, and live a few miles apart with out spouces. My parents are long deceased.
You think your parents were foolish to give a home to an unloved and unwanted child? Sounds like they were excellent people to me and you're the one who is foolish.
They were foolish not to go through legal channels. They could have been charged with kidnapping and gone to prison. The adoption was far from legal. I'm glad they took her in and escaped consequences but the deed was iffy.
