Black not African American

I hate it when people call me African American. Even if I were from Africa that is a country not a race. I am BLACK, deal with it. What gives you the right to be American and the rest of us are some other country and then American. Guess what I am just as American as you. I just happen to be black.

  • that good to hear from a black man, it always drives me nuts too, then you should refer to me as an Irish american, even though our family blood lines have been here for many generations

  • Thank you

  • Allow me to respectfully point out that Africa is a continent, not a country...

  • No matter how you refer to your race, someone will be offended...... Get over it.

  • ^ I know. I feel the same at times. My point is that I am American by country and black or negro or colored. Why do white people get to be Americans and everyone else has to have some qualifier. Even native Americans have that. To be honest I guess Negro is the most appropriate, however some look at that as derogitory. How is identifying me by my race derogitory?

  • So if "black" is the correct term, why is there still A United Negro College Fund and a National Association for the Advancement of Colored People?

I never know WHAT term is correct any more.

  • I agree with you. I hate the hyphenated American moniker.
