Its said that an atheist thats near death turns to god

I'm struggling with the problems that come with old age and being old and alone. I'll soon be in a assisted living home and I'll have to sell my house I guess go there to die. Not that I'm deathly ill but I am old and who knows? Many of my friends some of whom were younger than I am have passed away.

So how do I feel after a lifetime of atheism? I still don't believe in god. I have no desire to pray or whatever and I expect annihilation and oblivion when I die.

I think that so called atheists who do turn to the invisible man in the sky were never true atheists at all.

No to me there is no ** below me and above me only sky.

Imagine.

    • As a species, humans can't help but reach out for answers and assistance. It's the reason humans came up with religion in the first place. When you're near death and no human can "save you" it's not unusual to search for answers but the interesting question is which one of the many gods does an atheist turn to?

    • Everyone is different.

Don't profess you know the reason why, mankind invented different religions.
You don't know that, how can you, no one does! Mankind can only speculate, fool!

Stip making assumptions based on your personal opinions, opinions aren't facts!

    • The only thing you can be sure of is no human has any understanding of the nature of our exsistance.....those who pretend to are delusional

    • I agree, well said

    • I'll pray for you, you sound so lonely.

    • Read....

    • Getting on a bit myself.
I have been involved with the christian church most of my life.
Do I believe in God? That though is an interesting question.
I just dont know. There is no evidence either way (in my view).
I don't get little voices from God telling me to do this or that.
One practical thing I have though is a group of friends. Community. Human. Not perfect. Not all will be around to support me but in the past when times have been tough it's been nice to receive their support.

I do often pray. Maybe its a bit like meditation. It does help to focus. Mind you I am also a bit ** and a dam good spanking can also help.

Persoanlly I don't care if someone is a true atheist or just a plain fallable atheist or a christian or a whatever. I find it difficult to converse with someone who has set in concrete strong views and ends up judgeing those who are not the same as them to be somehow inferior or wrong.

I hope when I get close to death that I will still be living in my own home and still see other people regularly. If I get too frail and others try to move me 'for my own good' then I plan to find a cliff and jump off. Just me. I don't want a long drawn out death.
