My African manager was embarrased
I was an older white guy who had taken a job with the state. My Manager was black and when we first met he made sure I knew who was boss. I'm used to taking orders from management so I really didn't know why he was acting the way he was. The other black co workers got ** at him because I was always nice to them.
One day they hired a young intern. A black kid who was told by the head of HR who was black not to go into the customer areas of the building. He was supposed to work with me.
My manager ordered me not to tell him what to do. I said ok. Well the kid went to the customer area and the HR lady found him and terminated him. Cussed him out in front of me. I asked her to give him another chance but she fired him anyway.
My manager was unaware of this.
Returning to my work area my manager reinterated that I was not to tell the young man what to do.
When I told him that HR had terminated him for insubordination he got so embarrassed he left the room.
