I want to spend the day after thanksgiving with my mother, even though i am scheduled to be with my father. I will be with him on the actual holiday, but I just can't bring myself to ask him
obviously if the poster can spend the day-after-thanksgiving with her/his mother. i say, ask him. he gets you for the holiday, and that's part of parenting - give and take. unless your mom is a bad parent, she deserves some time with you and you deserve to ask for time with her. i'm sure your dad will understand. worst case, he'll be a little sad or maybe offended. he might be a little angry. chances are he'll understand.
