I work with teenagers. Sometimes

I work with teenagers. Sometimes they're so rude and obnoxious, I just want to slap some sense into them. They think they're right and that they've got the world figured out at the age of 16, that adults are arrogant fools out to get them, and that they can do whatever they want without any consequences.

I'm not saying all teenagers are like this, but it's really aggravating. I understand the forces that shape them to be like this, from bad or neglectful parenting to harmful forms of media to negative peer influences, but it still gets on my nerves from time to time. I'm here to help them, but when they don't want to be helped, it makes my job tough.

I don't always feel this angry about boorish teenagers. Just right now.

  • I'm sure you were nothing like that when you were a teenager. . .

  • ALL teenagers are like this don't you remember being one stop blaming the f****** parents already.

  • Oh and u should also acknowledge that being a teenager kinda sux and is hard maybe some of the kids just feel like adults think badly of them and stuff and dont like that. By the way do u happen to be Mrs. Summers she was so nice but if kids got on her nerves then she shed show it to them. She was frickin awesome.

  • i am 15 and i agree but its parents and oldd peoples fault. no j/k.
i feel the same when older ppl are like its a teenager shes just out to cause trouble. i wish parents and media and other things were different it effects us so much u know.

  • Original poster again. No, I'm not Mr. Washburn, but teachers do have to put up with a lot of garbage from their students.

To the above poster, I resonate with that anger, which is why I posted in the first place. But I would never cross that line. Thanks for empathizing though!

  • Original poster here. Thanks for the great comments. I was expecting to be flamed by adolescents!

  • The ones that don't want to be helped are the people that need the most help..

    Trust me.

  • Teenagers are like toddlers in development. Consider it a review of the terrible two's and take comfort in the fact that one of them will be writing the words you just wrote in as little as 10-15 years.

  • They do feel like they know all that there is to know regarding their future don't they? They can't appreciate what they have until its taken away from them. Hard lessons, but kudos to you for trying.
