Relocation roller coaster

I'm moving my wife and family to another state and a new job. I've done my research, made all the connections and reservations, but I spend every sleepless night dreading that something is going to go wrong and we'll end up homeless and destitute. I feel sometimes like I must be crazy to be pulling up roots like this when so much could happen.

    • #2 here,
Sounds like you might need a back-up plan anyway. Any other career skills? Something other job field you might move into if things do get tough?
Don't know what you do but, maybe with the skills you have, a little training could make you even more attractive/valued.
In a cut-throat market, you want to make sure YOUR throat isn't the one being cut.

    • Thanks. Am feeling a little better about it now. In the past, when I was single, whenever I changed jobs I just kind of went with the flow and things always managed to work out. Now with a wife and kid it's just a little scarier, especially with the job market being so bad. Even though this transfer is a "go," I know I'm still low man on the totem pole if it comes to downsizing later on.

    • ^ True.
Just give it the best you've got. That's all we can do.

    • thats a part of life, you take risks, sometimes it doesnt work out, but you'll know better for the next time :)
