If God exists he just watches while horrors are happening

Please pray to God through Jesus Christ, read the Bible and go to church or watch it online and pray for the natural death of Donald J. Trump as soon as possible. Thank you.

One explanation is that life is a classroom and we're here to experience and learn. It's not meant to be peaches and cream for everybody. If you believe some people, they'll tell you that there are other planets that our souls can incarnate on, and Earth is one of the hardest- and most rewarding. The point isn't to maximize pleasure. It's about the experience. You might die in a violent attack, for example, but on the other side, you'll understand why you experienced it. It's a cosmic stage play, basically.
I'm no zealot so take it as you may, just offering an answer. Listen to Alan Watts and you'll get some more insight on this line of thinking.

It does seem odd that a fair God would sit by an do nothing for his beloved children. The churches have developed many explanations or excuses for this.
