Ethnic incident involving a fellow student one Jeish one Xtian
I was in History class in college when this guy who had been in my High School homeroom class walked up to me and some other guys and siad "heres a joke anyone here Jewish"?
As i turned out one of his listeners was Jewish. He said I am.
The guy with the joke then refused to tell it although the Jewish guy said "No I want to hear it" I was uncomfortable but I had not asked for this and I tried to stay out of it. The joker continued to refuse to tell the joke and eventually the class started.
W as near the Jewish guy the next day and he said to me "don't touch me" Well I'm not a toucher and I left him alone but why in ** was he ** at me? I had not tried to make the joke and I had said nothing during the whole incident.
A jewish person later on after hearing this told me I should have spoke p and not just watched. He said the right thing to do was to say "hey wait a minute, we have Jewish students here"
That hindsight. Yes I should have defended the Jewish guy but at age 18 I was a bit naive and not used to situations like this one.
Forty years later I was sitting with my Jewish co worker when this guy sat with us on break and told my Jewish friend he knew a Jewelry salesman that was the same nationality as he was. I said to that guy this time "What nationality is that Bob"? The Jewish guy said he was an American. I told Bob to get his facts straight. You are born in American yu become an Amercan at birth.
I told Bob that next time he should refer to the gentleman in his tale that he was Jewish.
OK this is the difference between being 18 and 58
