Question for Jewish people
When I was a college freshman I attended a communtiy college. Several of my High School classmates went there also.
One day I was in History class before the Professor got to the class and this casual acuaintance from Hgh School wanted to tell a joke. He asked me if there were any Jews listening and in fact there was. The joke had been anti semetic and the Jewish classmate wanted to hear it. I had not been expecting any of this and I just sat there apprehensively. The former classmate refused to repeat the joke despite the Jewish guys demands to hear it.
Later during the day the Jewish classmate told me not to touch h9im. I wasn't going to touch him and I wondered what that was all about. I believe it was because my former classmate who was not a friend of mines stupid thoughtless asinine joke.
OK did I deserve that? I have been told that I should have spoken up against said joke instead of just sitting there.
My answer to that is this. I was flabberghasted, speechless, being young and inexperienced I was unable to think of a course of action.
I've remembered this my whole life. fifty years later at break with a Jewish friend a coworker sat with us and said something to the effect that a local Jeweler was the same "nationality" as my Jewish co worker. I spoke up and said "What nationality is that Bob?" He said well you know what I mean. I said no I had no idea what he meant. I then said. Could it be your speaking of the Jewelers religious faith? Because what you should have said was that the individual was a Jewish guy or better still not bring his ethnicity up in the first place.
I was sitting with my Jewish co worker and friend during this incident.
The jew asks to hit him. You hit him. You pay. Sounds about right. It was your fault for taking a word of one.
I think jewishness is grossly overrated. Same like all those ** or non binary people. We will be told to make or not make a joke. Most jokes make fun of someone. Or else are based in a kind of misunderstanding.
I do not say a joke on Shoah brings one any credits. Nor that telling a ** or a black joke is noble in itself.
But, believe me, people can get ** about ANYTHING. Not a good reason for other people to avoid telling jokes.
Have you read maybe rasta people hate it when you wear dreadlocks ??? Yes. This is true. And making a joke about Allah will get you a knife thru your throat - just as if you were a halal lamb.
When someone makes a STUPID joke, then just stand up and tell them this. Or tell a stupid joke that involves their color, ideology or religion. Then run fast. (Or shoot first)
I hate Jews. I love Jews. I know a million Jew jokes. I am a Jew too. (and NO, it is not a nationality, unless we are talking about those in Israel / Palestine)
