How do I handle this?

I'm 23 years of age & have a beautiful daughter. I work a full time job and live with my mother. I've been hearing from family that my mom calls me freeloading and lazy, despite the fact that I pay her $300 in rent, and purchase my own groceries and toiletries. Im saving to move out, while also paying off the $4000 in bills that she illegally put in my name when I was a kid. How do I handle her slander without getting kicked out of her house?

  • Well you got a good head on your shoulders< ove out and be on your own , She will cuss and knock you down and tell your stupid for moving on your own < but in the end you will be thanking yourself and ending the drama . Unless you love the h*** and stay and put up with it

  • You mom is slandering you, its called defamation of character and it is a tort in common law. Publishing and repeating false information that harms your reputation. You are employed full time and paying for yourself. Move out of her house, leave her high and dry, that will show her. You can sue her for money damages because she committed fraud with utility bills. You can sue her for either damages or punitively if she does not stop slandering you upon request. Make her sign a lease agreement to pay exactly $300 for a specified area of the house or move out.

  • Who exactly is doing the slandering? Maybe your mom needs to stand up to these people, or just ignore them and tell them it's none of their business. Just keep doing what you're doing and you'll be able to move out and on with your life. Can you also prove that she put the bills in your name when you were a minor? Not sure if you can actually be held responsible for bills if you weren't 18 at the time...may want to ask someone about that.
