I am a middle school teacher...

Not sure if this should go under "school" or "work", so I pick "school".
I teach middle school English at a private K-8 school near Chicago. This is my sixth year teaching, and I can say with all honesty that a lot of the demographic stereotypes, particularly with minority students, are completely true.
The white girls all drink Starbucks, the Asian students all do well in Math, and the Hispanic students have to translate for their parents during conferences. But....
Of all of the black students I have taught over the years, only three have come from dual-parent households. At least one of those was because the father had cancer and was literally stuck at home. Only a small handful of my other students come from single-parent households.
And when it comes time for parent-teacher conferences, I have to schedule extra time for the black mothers because they always blame me and the other teachers for their student's failures in school. Nevermind that the students do do their assignments, don't pay attention in class, etc..
I, like the other teachers at my school, have to make two sets of lesson plans. One for the students who are on or above grade level, which happens to be all of the white and Asian students, and most of the Hispanic students. Then we have to make secondary lesson plans (mostly worksheet-based, since it requires less abstract thought) for the black students. The average black student is at least three years behind their peers in Reading and Writing by the time they get to me in sixth grade.
And even as young as twelve years old, the young black males have hormonal and social issues. They say inappropriate things to the females in the class and even the female teachers. They swear constantly. (Yes I know, ALL students swear on the playground when they think no one is listening. But the young black males have no social filter for that. They even write it into their papers sometimes.)
Like many young teachers, I was taught in college that most of these problems are based on economics, not race. But this is a private school, so the parents have a little bit of money at least. The tuition is about $500 a month.
I'm not saying this like it is a problem or something that I need advice with. It is what it is. I'm not trying to change the world. I teach because I like it and I don't really need the money, thanks to some wise investments in my earlier years. Just something I had to get off of my chest.

  • I made a mistake marrying a black girl , we have 3 children. She thinks nothing of cheating , and she is a chronic liar. So after her first affair , i have put programs on her puter and have her phone tapped , and the cell is under special contract to send call numbers to me . we have 3 kids and two have special needs needs, so I am hanging with her . But being so angry about her easy cheating, I have been having my own affairs , so far have screwed 8 women in the last 2 years out of revenge . I know she is still cheating because I bug her van with a special GPS and tape recorder . I never had any idea that she would do this when I married her . I never have s** with her anymore though sleeping in the same bed , I just hug her and kiss her and say good night sweet heart .

  • The problem is simple, these young black men don't have a positive male role model in their lives. As a result they grow up to be deadbeat dads themselves, perpetuating the cycle. The solution is also simple, the punishment for 'deadbeat dadism' should be vasectomy. Responsible dads can father multiple children, irresponsible ones can father only one and after a few generations responsible fathers will outnumber irresponsible ones and the black community will finally be a viable part of society rather than a sinkhole for taxpayer money.

    I agree with you about the lack of role models. I would go one step further and say that this started with the forced integration of schools in the 50s and 60s. I've seen the results first-hand of what happens when one or two "bad" students are forced into a class for political reasons: the parents of the best students pull their kids from the school, and the other students' progress is slowed down by the newcomers. The result: Really top-notch schools in the suburbs where the wealthy could afford to flee, and constantly underachieving schools for everyone who can't afford to escape.
