I tanked someone else's career through cowardice

Several years ago, during one of my college courses, I got partnered with someone for a final project. One that I was supposed to do a big/final portion of the work on, which I never actually completed. I didn't have the ** to show up on the last day because I couldn't get it done, and we ended up getting a 0 on the final project. Which was a massive portion of our grade. I flunked, ended up on academic probation, and switched majors. I never found out what happened to the other guy and I've felt ashamed about it ever since, because I feel like I tanked that person's academics. I tell myself he was probably fine even if he failed (our area is upper-middle class) but I have no way of knowing for sure.
