The new walk of shame

These days many if not all companies have a terminated employee escorted out of the building. You gather your belongings into a box and out the door you go escorted by a former fellow employee.

Its humiliating. I don't believe its necessary unless the former employee did something violent.

    • I used be a security guard; and have done some of that escorting, myself. I really felt sorry for them. It was obviously one of the worst days of their life; especially if they had been with the company for a number of years and were looking forward to building a career, there.

    • It is necessary because most companies do not allow non-employees to walk around buildings unaccompanied. Also, a lot of fired take a lot of time to leave and cause drama. I agree, it feels bad. But if you have ever seen one of these go sideways you might understand better.

    • My intention was to walk straight out the door not looking left or right and get in my car and leave never to return. I realize that other more disgrunted terminated employees make a scene but I think the ** should have been present at my termination and not have me wait until they go get him.
