I Think I Have a Sleeping Disorder?
I'm 15. Ever since I was little I've had a fascination with the study of dreams and sleep. Since I was about 6 or 7, I have had a great ability to stay up all night and most of the next day, only sleeping about 6-8 hours ever two days. I think that this may also be the reason I was so short as a child, (I come from a relatively average height family) yet, I was unusually small for my age. Up until I turned about 13 I have never been the same height as any of my friends or family, but now I'm about as tall as most of my friends, and I'm taller than my 38 year old mom, 25 year old sister, my father, and my grandmother. I have recently had an interest in sleeping disorders, the kinds of crazy things that happen to people when they're asleep fascinate me. I came across a disorder call DSPD, or Delayed Sleep Phase Disorder, where your "body clock" is out of wack and you usually don't go to sleep at normal times. Like tonight, I fell asleep at 7, and woke right after midnight, and now can't sleep. I think I have this disorder, but my parents and family just think I stay up just because. I can't sleep very well at night, I fall asleep better around 5:30-6:00 a.m. It's been going on for about two years now, but it has a greater effect since around May 2013. What are your thoughts on this? I can't see a doctor, because my parents let my insurance slip.Nov 12, 2013
