Do Not Have Kids
I repeat: Do Not Under Any Circumstances Have Children.
They will grow in to incompetent, pathetic, horrible adults regardless of the effort you put in. Regardless of the time and energy you dedicated to trying to cultivate an independent and responsible adult. Regardless of the amount of money you spent trying to give them the best start in life, the best education, the best experiences.
Save your money. Do enough to get them on in life and out of your home when they turn 18 and no more.
They will turn in to whoever or whatever they were meant to turn in to, regardless of what you do.
Detach from your feelings of hurt and disappointment. Take care of yourself.

Sounds like you had a rough run. I cant agree with kicking kids out at 18. I hate that American mentality. Also sounds like you didnt have all the tools you needed to get through parenting. We learn as we go and rely on those who have wisdom in that area. If it isnt too late try to have a meaningful relationship with your kids. You are all they got. They'll realize it when they see that parents can die off and they will be at the top of life with no older generations above them.
I didn't need to have kids to realize this, but you do you. It is good to hear from people who had to learn the hard way, because we more intelligent ones get dismissed for refusing to participate in the first place.
