State says goodbye to the mediocre worker
I passed a clerk three test with the state. I was offered a job in a mail room but I was unaware of what the job entailed. I thought it was a everyday mail room position and hopefully it would lead to something better. It turned out to be a nightmare of pulling heavy boxes up a flight of stairs and getting sweaty and I do mean sweaty.
I had to go to a building, load up several boxes some weighing 40lbs or more and then loading them into a old police car. Then I drove to the Police station and I had to load them into the mail room and then pull them up a flight of stairs.
After this I was completely covered in sweat. This was no clerical position. It was hard manuel labor. I'd have to move sometimes as many as fifteen 40lb boxes, having to pull them up a flight of stairs after handling them two times already.f
I resigned. I gave them a two weeks notice and left the building. My manager was dismayed but he should have seen this coming.
The state in their wisdom had fixed it so that if a job came open it would be dropped a pay grade. Being a state job the pay was dismal anyway.
After I left I found out that they had dropped my position and my job was being done by part time workers who were hard to keep because they hated the job as bad as I did.
